University of Mount Union

I was a member of 91.1 WRMU-FM, the University of Mount Union's student lead radio station for all four years of my college career. More specifically, I was a member of the sports department with WRMU. I broadcasted and produced multiple sports broadcasts through my time at Mount Union, developing content and enhancing viewership for the organization. I was named the sports director in the Spring of 2017 to oversee all Mount Union athletics for the radio station and live streams. These included the following sports: men's and women's basketball, football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, baseball and softball. I had the opportunity to cover three Division III National Championships (2015, 2017, 2018) and cover two OAC Championships in men's and women's basketball (2015, 2019). One of my favorite broadcast memories came from covering the Division III National Championship in 2017 in Salem, Virginia. Mount Union won its 13th title against Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tx.) 12-0 in Stagg Bowl XLV. Along with covering Mount Union athletics, I hosted a sports talk show called "Raiderzone" twice a week on Monday's and Wednesday's covering the news in sports that week.

I wrote sports columns for The Dynamo, the University of Mount Union's student lead newspaper. I wrote digital content pieces covering anything from Mount Union athletics to other sports stories. In 2018, I was awarded the Krahling Journalism Award, this award is given to a student that exemplifies excellence in journalism during the school year. One of my favorite memories during my collegiate career was covering the Scholar Lecture in 2017 at Mount Union were Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the special guest. I had the opportunity to interview the NBA legend before he addressed the University of Mount Union.

In my senior year with 91.1 WRMU-FM, I strived to expand the sports radio brand with social media engagement and player engagement. During football season, I brought back "Purple Raider Sitdown" for a second straight year. "Purple Raider Sitdown" involved a 10 to 15-minute segment with football players, allowing players to have a voice outside the football field, and giving fans of the team a chance to learn about the players taking the field. These segments would air on gamedays before pregame at the stadium. These interviews were also uploaded to YouTube and posted on the WRMU Sports Twitter account. Along with the interviews, I would clip the broadcast audio and add it to the football highlights for fans and players and post these highlights on YouTube and Twitter. During the basketball season, I caught up with a player before pregame and did a three-minute segment that would air during the pregame show on game days. I also clipped highlights from the broadcast for basketball season and posted them on Twitter and YouTube. By the time of my final college broadcast, I expanded WRMU's sports twitter from 500 followers to 1,500 and was a significant part growing the student lead organization by interesting students to join the radio station and building their skills.
